Hinch 10 Yr. Blend Sherry Cask Finish displays strong notes of dried fruits & nuts.
Nestled in the Killaney Estate about 10 miles south of Belfast, Hinch Distillery offers a small batch blend of single malt and single grain whiskeys, a 5-year old Doublewood version of the same blend, and a 10-year old sherry-cask finished version as well. It also offers a single pot still, a peated single malt with no age statement, and an 18-year old single malt finished in French red wine casks.
Hinch's 10-year old variety is an 86-proof (43% ABV) blend of single malt and single grain whiskeys that is finished in Oloroso sherry casks for a year before bottling. There's a whiff of bitter fruitiness on the nose while the initial taste is of dried apples and nuts--think chestnuts and almonds. The sherry casks lend a richness that mellow the overall flavor profile. The Hinch 10-Year Blend Sherry Cask Finish retails for about $40.
