Chapel Gate Whiskey Co. and its brand J.J. Corry are a throwback to the whiskey bonders of yesteryear. J.J. Corry himself was a 19th century whiskey bonder who befriended the local taxman John Hanson to curry a little favor. Chapel Gate is located on the McGuane family farm in County Clare (about an hour west of Limerick) and is run by Louise McGuane, whose father farmed the same land.
The Hanson is a blend of Irish grain whiskeys. It's light and fruity, and while it seems young, it's a very pleasant taoscan. We detect some apple on the palate, maybe even a little white grape, and definitely some vanilla. The sweetness is undeniable but it's balanced by some spice.
ABV: 46%
Retail price: About $50
J.J. Corry The Hanson: 92 POINTS
